An emergency response plan is most essential for every organization or institution so that in case of any emergency situation, you know what to do for saving the property and resources. This emergency response plan should be created much in advance and according to the plan, necessary steps should be implemented for dealing with any emergency situation. While developing the emergency response plan, you have to think in totality without missing any point otherwise the plan will not be full proof.
1. To start with, you have to identify the possible threats, which might lead to emergency situation in your organization. All these possible threats have some kind of warning symptoms. You need to clarify these warnings, so that at least some of your employees can foresee the vulnerability of any dangerous occurrence and can act accordingly.
2. The next step would be to collect all useful phone numbers or contact information of various help assistance like fire station, ambulance, local police station, nearest hospital etc. Your emergency response planning should include these contact information, such that they can be contacted for help at the time of need.
3. In your emergency response plan, you must figure out the evacuation plan also, as you might need to evacuate the building within few minutes when there is some kind of disaster. If you have the plan ready, then the process of evacuation will be much organized and fast. Otherwise, there will be a total chaos, which will be very difficult to control and which may lead to more casualties.
4. Another important step in your emergency response plan will be to train your employees for dealing with emergency situations. When your employees know what to do in the time of disaster, then it becomes much easier to deal. The trainings can be something as simple as CPR training or Hazwoper training specific for businesses dealing with hazardous waste of any kind.
5. Finally, you should remember to go through the plan time to time and keep all the information correct and updated. Particularly, the phone number or contact information might change or there might be something more helpful to add into the list. Keeping all the information latest will ensure that you get sufficient help at the time when you are in great danger.
